Attorney Joe Mathew

IMG_0208 BWAs a veteran, Joe is no stranger to a fight.  Joe decided to enlist in the Navy and pursue a career in law because of his strong desire to defend others and pursue justice.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Joe earned a B.S. in Economics from the University of Houston in less than three years. After working as the administrative manager at a prominent immigration law firm, Joe decided to attend the South Texas College of Law for its nationally recognized advocacy program. Joe represented South Texas as a varsity mock trial advocate and won a speaker award his very first year.

While in school, Joe was a Director of the South Texas College of Law Board of Advocates. He founded and was the president of the South Texas College of Law Hunting and Rifle Association, and was also president of the South Texas chapter of the Federalist Society.

Joe Mathew has built his reputation by taking on tough cases.  Experts have stated that his recent Jury Verdict of $ 0.5 Million in a Revenge Porn case is the first and largest verdict in the nation for these types of cases.  The case was considered almost impossible to win not only because there are no laws in Texas criminalizing Revenge Porn, but also because in these type of cases it is very hard to prove Mental Anguish.  Joe was able to turn these weaknesses into a strength, and won a $0.5 million Unanimous Jury Verdict for his client.

Joe is admitted to practice law in all Texas State Courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.  He is a member of the Texas Trial Lawyer’s Association and the Houston Trial Lawyer’s Association. Currently, Joe serves as President for the South Asian Bar Association and General Counsel for the Knanaya Catholic Congress of North America.  He is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, and Malayalam, and conversant in Mandarin and Tamil.
